The beginning

Matthew Broderick started his acting career as Mike in a small screen serial called Lou Grant. Born to actor parents Patricia and James Broderick, acting came naturally to him. His talent got noticed in the soap and in 1983 he bagged the role of Michael McPhee in Max Dugan Returns. The movie was not a very big hit; yet created Matthew’s foothold in Hollywood. In the same year he acted in War games. This movie did good business and he was nominated for the Saturn award for best actor. Then there was no looking back. His fame and offers both kept on rising.

The rise

Broderick gave his first big hit with Ferris Buellers day off. There he played the character of Ferris who is a teenager; at the age of 23 his looks and his skill made the character of Ferris, a carefree teenager, successful. It was an instant success and proved his acumen in comedy. Soon in 1987 followed Project X in which he played the character of a pilot. His charms and his talent all suited the character and pleased the viewers.

The next year he acted as a gay lover to Harvey Fierstein, in the film adapted from the Torch Song Trilogy. Talent will create its own niche and so was the case with Broderick. In 1989 he acted in a movie called Glory depicting the American Civil war, which did not do well with the audience, yet his effort was appreciated.

He has also given his voice to various movies, the most notable being the animated children movie The Lion King. He has also lent his voice for The Thief and the Cobbler.

He experimented with all genres of movies, from romantic, to comedies, from adventurous to dark comedies. If he is a loving husband in The Stepford Wives, he can also be the responsible doctor Nick Tatopoulos in Godzilla. If he can play the carefree teenager in Ferris Buellers day off, he can also play the high school teacher in Election. In fact his work as school teacher in Election had such passion and intensity, that it won him the nomination for Chlotrudis Award for best actor.

Broderick’s rise cannot be accurately comprehended without the mention of the stage plays. Torch Song Trilogy was his first step, and Brighton Beach Memoirs, Biloxi Blues, Night Must Fall, How To Succeed in Business without Really Trying, Taller Than A Dwarf, all kept on establishing him as a talented actor.
